Book Review - It's So Easy (And Other Lies)

Hey Lovelies,
Today I am writing my first ever book review! I'm not exactly the world's biggest bookworm, but I still do love a good read and It's So Easy (And Other Lies) by Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan is one book I could not put down.
In case you weren't aware, I am a massive GnR fan and anything about the band really interests me. As you probably know, Duff McKagan was part of the original Guns N' Roses line up, and in this book the musician from Seattle documents the band's rise to fame as well as his own personal struggles with alcohol and drug addiction.
At the beginning of the book, Duff talks about being at his eldest daughter's 13th birthday party. He then takes us back to his own childhood, the bands he played in and how he ended up moving from Seattle to Hollywood were he eventually formed a band with Axl Rose, Slash, Izzy Stradlin and Steven Adler. The rest you could say is rock n roll history, and if you want to find out more about that history you definitely need to read It's So Easy (And Other Lies)!
Reading this book makes you realise how close the 5 band mates were when they first got together and formed Guns N' Roses. It's really sad how money, alcohol, drugs, greedy management and big egos probably ended up being the downfall of Guns n' Roses, but Duff does not lay blame on anyone in his autobiography, he simply talks about his own journey and experiences during his time with the band.
Whilst reading this book, I would go onto YouTube to watch every performance that Duff talks about.
It's quite shocking how much alcohol and drugs those guys did, but yet how they were able to give the most amazing performances live on stage.
In the last part of the book, after Duff's pancreas pretty much exploded due to his alcoholism, he tells us how he turned his life around. Realising there's more to life than sex, drugs and rock n roll, Duff found a new passion for mountain biking and fitness, met the love of his life  with whom he has 2 children and studied for a degree.
I enjoyed reading Duff's autobiography more than Slash's. You could say this book is more than just a rock star autobiography, it's about a man's journey through life. Steven Adler's book next on my list, but what I am really waiting for is for Izzy Stradlin and Axl Rose to put pen to paper and tell us their own individual sides of the Guns N Roses story. Who knows if that will ever happen. Apparently Axl Rose wants to write an autobiography but he is doesn't know how to word things in a way that will not make other people (probably Slash haha!) look like liars.
This year Duff, Slash and Axl finally reunited and are touring together again after 23 years. I was a bit sceptical about this reunion at first because I did not want my memories of Guns N' Roses as they were in the 90s to ever be ruined, but I have seen some of the concert footage and I must say they are all looking and sounding pretty damn good! It's a shame that Izzy is not part of their reunion tour but I know that even Steven Adler did a couple of performances with the band which made me very happy!
If you're a Guns N' Roses fan like me, definitely get your hands on a copy of It's So Easy (And Other Lies).
