Rimmel Apocalips - Worth The Hype?

Rimmel Apocalips CelestialHey Lovelies,
Earlier this year Rimmel released the Apocalips lip lacquers and they proved to be immensely popular. It seems everyone plus their dog went out and bought them - including me. Months down the line the hype has definitely died down. Now they've also been released across the pond, so I thought it's a good time for me to share my thoughts with you on what could be one of the most talked about lip products of 2013.
The Rimmel Apocalips are available in 8 different shades, but I only bought the colour 101 Celestial. I remember going into Boots when they were first released and most of the colours were sold out at the time. From the ones that were left, Celestial is the only one that really caught my eye. Now I bought this product back in February, and since then I have only worn it about twice.Rimmel Apocalips Celestial Even though the colours of the Rimmel Apocalips are very pigmented and long wearing, I am not that impressed with the colour range. Personally I find that most of the colours are very bright and as such, not really suitable for every day office or college wear. I know there is a nude shade in the collection, but I was even slightly disappointed with that as it is perhaps a bit too pale. I've got a feeling it would make me look like I've applied a mixture of foundation and lipgloss to my lips, which is  obviously not a very good look.
I also don't really like the scent of the Rimmel Apocalips. They have a sweet watermelon smell. Now don't get me wrong, I love watermelon, but I prefer my make up not to smell of it. Make up smelling of fruit is just very 1990s and something I would probably get excited about if I was 12. Not 32.
The formula of the Rimmel Apocalips however is quite nice. They are not at all sticky which I like. Having said that, this is not a product I can apply without a mirror, and it's probably better to apply these with a lipliner as well just to make sure you get a nice clean lipline.

So as you can tell, I am not a very big fan of the Rimmel Apocalips. Please don't get me wrong Rimmel is a brand I usually love. I'm a big fan of their eyeliners and nail polishes in particular. Sadly the Rimmel Apocalips just didn't do it for me, in spite of the hype surrounding them.
Did you buy any of the Rimmel Apocalips? What did you think of them?

  2. The have released 14 shades in the US and they have changed the name to Show Off (I prefer the original name) but I am really happy to see the new shades available here as I find the original shades too bright for every day use. I like these but not my favourite lip product for sure.

    1. I didn't realise they'd changed the name in the US, good to know. I agree with you they're not my favourite lip products either xx

  3. I rushed out and got the lip butters and felt a bit ‘meh’ about them and I didn’t want to make the same mistake with these. I agree with you the colour range isn’t worth getting excited about. x

  4. I was really excited about these to start with but to be honest I don't reach for them that much. I'm tempted to try one of the brighter pinks but it probably wouldn't get that much wear :( xx

  5. I never bothered with them as I don't do glosses, I did swatch them in Boots but wasn't wowed by the colours. Shame you didn't get on with it. Over hyped I guess? x

  6. I love these! I know alot of people have found them a miss but personally I find Nova the one I wear the most. I generally work them into the lips because I don't like a super glossy finish for during the day and I find they last longer that way. I do appreciate your honesty though it's always refreshing reading a great review like this :)

  7. I have got two of these - 500 Luna which is a coral colour and 600 nude eclipse.

I agree that it would be better to have a lip liner with these or even over another lipstick as maybe it was the wrong colour choice for me (NW20/25 skin tone) but the nude is quite pale and luna is very bright.

  8. Confession time; I'm 34 and loved the Watermelon smell of them!! Maybe I need to grow up or I'm just trying to recapture my youth?! ;)

I'm not usually a gloss fan and find these somewhere in between and actually love them but I did go for the brighter colours, Stella and Apocolyptic. I agree with you that you need a lip liner as they can be difficult to apply and there was a lot of checking my teeth for lipstick whilst wearing!

  10. I like the colours. I jumped on the hype when they were first released buying three, I loved them but now I never wear them and they just sit in my make up storage. I didn't even realise it was watermelon... haha! How silly of me

  13. I have not bought one but I swatched a few the other day. I did like the look of them as they are highly pigmented, but your right the colour range is not great, think there was only one I liked!

  14. I was really excited about these but when I seen the colour range I was disappointed too, I only got the Nude Eclipse which I love but none of the others jumped out at me, I'll maybe try the Luna at a push but I'd defiantly buy the Nude Eclipse again :)
