Maybelline Baby Lips - Worth the Hype?

Hey Lovelies,
I hope you're all well! Those of you who follow me on Twitter might already know that I recently started working for Benefit Cosmetics as a Beauty Advisor. The counter I work on is in Boots, and last week on my lunch break I did a bit of shopping and picked up 3 of the Maybelline Baby Lips which have finally been released in the UK. There is a lot of hype surrounding this product which always tends to make me a little sceptical. Quite a often when a new beauty product comes out, everyone jumps on the bandwagon (me included). What I have found though is that such products can often be overrated and are sometimes average at best.
Maybelline Baby Lips come in 6 different variants. A lot of the more popular ones such as Pink Punch and Peach Kiss were sold out at the Boots where I work, so I bought the ones which were left over. Those were the Hydrating one (blue with pink writing), the Mint Fresh one (green with purple writing) and the Intense Care one (pictured). All Maybelline Baby Lips contain SPF 20 and supposedly keep your lips moisturised for 8 hours.
I think the fact that they contain an SPF is great, but I'm not so sure that they do keep my lips moisturised for 8 hours as claimed. When I first apply the Intense Care lip balm, my lips feel really smooth and soft, but that feeling lasts about 3 to 4 hours, and certainly not for 8 hours! Still, around 4 hours is still a pretty good time and nothing to complain about.
If I'm completely honest, I think this is a nice lip balm, but I don't quite understand why everyone is going so crazy about it. The packaging is really cute, and the product does moisturise my lips, but it's no different to any other lip balm I've tried before. Infact, I don't even see a big difference between the Baby Lips and the Vaseline Lip Therapy Sticks which have been available in the UK for years. Both products contain petroleum jelly which is what keeps your lips feeling soft and moisturised.
Having tried the Baby Lips in the Intense Care formula, I've decided that I'm not going to open the other 2 which I bought because I'm just not that amazed that I need 3 of them in my life. One Maybelline Baby Lips product is more than enough for me. I will be giving the other 2 I have away to friends and family. Though I am glad we finally do have Baby Lips available in the UK, my favourite Maybelline product will for now remain their Falsies mascara, which is worth the hype, especially if you like thick and dramatic looking lashes like me! Maybelline Baby Lips to me are a nice lip balm, but nothing extra special and they are certainly not going to revolutionise my lip care routine like some of the hype would have you believe.
You can purchase Maybelline Baby Lips from Boots for a very affordable £2.99.
Have you tried this product? What are your thoughts on it?

  2. I picked up two of these and whilst I'm glad I got them I won't be rushing out to buy any more now. I have the Hydrate version and Pink Punch.

  3. I've managed to steer clear of these for exactly the reasons you say, it's a lipbalm!! If it doesn't add a smack of colour I'm not interested and have plenty of balms to keep me going!

  4. I couldn't be bothered to try these out because I had a feeling it was completely overhyped...a lip balm is pretty much a lip balm at the end of the day! xx

  5. I might try the Intense Care Baby lips but I'm not too fussed over the others. If they're not overly moisturising I don't see the point, that's what lip balms are meant to do.

  8. I just tried them and I agree, I don't see what's so great. Honestly, they're not the best! However, I would recommend them for the color and the price.
