February Birchbox and Bye Bye Beauty Boxes...

Hello Everyone,
I hope you've all had a lovely weekend and that you've had some sunshine where you are! Finally it's been sunny down in London, so I spent most of today taking pictures for my blog!
It was also quite a nice surprise for me as well when the postman delivered my February Birchbox yesterday morning. I'd actually completely forgotten about my subscription (which happens to be running out this month).

I am very pleased with this box. So much so that I'm even a little bit gutted that I've taken the decision to have a break from beauty box subscriptions for a while!
Quite a few of the samples were a very decent size in this box and I'm also happy about the fact that I got products from a couple of brands that I recognise.
The theme for this month's Birchbox is London Fashion Week which I thought was pretty cool.
I only got the box yesterday so I've not had a chance to try any of the products yet, but I wanted to show you what I got and explain my reasons for quitting beauty box subscriptions.

So first up I got these 3 very decent sized products:
Vichy Thermal Spa Water (Limited Edition) 50ml
I've never tried this product before but it's a brand I like and I'm pretty pleased I got this in my Birchbox. This sort of reminds me of MAC Fix Plus as it can be used as a toner, to set make up or to refresh your skin. Really looking forward to giving this product a go!
Nick Chavez Beverly HillS Plump N Thick Leave In Thickening Mist 50ml
Well done Birchbox, another product I'm happy with! I've got severely heat damaged hair so I am looking forward to trying this and seeing if it does anything to improve the condition of my locks.
Korres Guava Shower Gel 50ml
Whoop  whoop another product I like!  I've never actually tried anything from Korres before, but I am desperate to try their lip products as I've heard so many good things about them. This shower gel smells great and it's the perfect size if you're going away on holiday for a week.
These 3 items I wasn't that excited to get though:
Gerda Spillman Bio Fond Cream Foundation 4.5g
This is a Swiss brand I'd never heard of before. I don't think it's a good colour match for me (it's pink based and my skin has yellow undertones) so I'm not really sure if I will ever use this product.
Birchbox Eyelash Curler
This is another product I was slightly disappointed with. I always think it's a bit of a kop out when companies like Birchbox or Glossybox include own label products in their boxes. I've not tried these curlers though so to be fair they might be really good, but my initial reaction when I saw these wasn't great.
E Boost Natural Energy Booster
This is an energy drink powder. Not much else to say about it. I guess it's just one of those random little things you always get with beauty boxes!
Why I'm giving up Beauty Boxes:
I've had 9 various beauty boxes now and have decided to take a break from beauty box subscriptions for a while at least.
Over the months I seem to have accumulated a lot of products I don't need and will never use.
I have to say though that I enjoyed receiving my Birchbox every month a lot more than I enjoyed Glossybox, and most of the products I got that I don't use were in fact from Glossybox. But, to be fair to Glossybox, I have seen some blog posts and the contents of their boxes seems to have improved a lot from since I was subscribed to them.
The way I have decided to look at it though is, would I buy a magazine if one of these products was a magazine freebie, and the honest answer is probably not. I also need to start using up some of the sample size products I have before my stash gets even bigger.
If you've never tried a beauty box before subscription before though, I can highly recommend Birchbox (previously known as Joliebox), as you do get some pretty good products with them and the sample sizes are great for travelling too! It's also quite fun and exciting to receive a small parcel evey month without knowing the exact content, and seeing what everyone else got in their box too!
I am a little bit sad that I won't be getting my monthly beauty box any more, but on the bright side I am saving a bit of money now which wil probably be spent down at MAC or Boots instead...
What do you think? Are you subscribed to any beauty boxes and do you like this box? Please let me know in the comments below!

  3. I subscribe to julep maven. I like but I do find myself skipping most months of late. I usually just keep it for the mystery boxes, but I've been disappointed in them lately. I just recently decided to try birchbox, and I'm currently waiting for my first box to come in the mail. I hope I love it. I'm giving it a 3 month trail before I decided if I'll keep it or not.

  4. I tried Glossybox for a month, wasn't keen on the box I got and then I interned there so obviously cancelled my subsciption ASAP as you get to try each months products for free lol. I did sign up to She Said Beauty and again cancelled my subscription after recieving a sh*t box. I think the whole concept of a beauty box being delivered to you each month with suprise products seems really fun and good, but realistically I think everyone is better of just saving their money each month and buying products you actually want to try even though it can be pricey! I really wanted to try Birchbox after reading everyones post, but I think I'll leave it. Fab post, enjoyed reading it :) xxx

    1. Awww well jel you interned at Glossybox that sounds like so much fun! I completely agree with you, it is fun getting a box with surprise products each month but it's probably better to save your money and buy things you actually want. I'm not using so much stuff I got out of my beauty box subscriptions but if I decide to sign up again I'll def go with Birchbox as they was my favourites xxx
