Broken Make Up

Hey everyone!

Hope you all having a good Monday! Thought I'd bring you this quick post on broken make up. I spend way too much money on make up, and I buy a lot of high end stuff, so I thought I'd show you guys what's happened to some of my products and what I think of them!

Right the first item is my Nars Orgasm blush. I must be one of the few people in the world who dislikes this product! First of all I'm not keen on the name. I wanted to give it to my mum but decided against it. It's just a bit awkward really, giving your mum a blush with a name like that... (Generally I always try to pass make up items I don't like onto my mum!)

The colour is nice enough, but I really don't like the packaging! The case is a rubbery kind of plastic that gets dirty so easily!  And I 've got no idea how the lid snapped off! This blush is always sat in the drawer where I keep my make up. I don't even use it that often!

Saying that, I don't dislike all Nars products. The Nars Laguna bronzer is one of my favourites but this blush is, in my opinion,  a bit overrated...

Next on my list is my MAC Blot Powder which has seen better days. I actually really like this product  though! And if you buy it a few shades darker, it works really well for contouring!
I used to keep my Blot Powder in my handbag but sadly it smashed. I hadn't even realised, but when I took it out my bag one day to powder my nose at work, it was all smashed and I left a big powdery mess under my desk. I don't think the poor cleaner was very happy with me, especially as I tried to cover the mess up by rubbing the lose powder into the carpet under my desk.... I'm using it as a lose powder now, and I would buy this again cos it's really good at setting your make up. Maybe not just ideal for keeping in my handbag.....

Here we have my lovely Urban Decay Naked Pallet. I love this pallet, and I've used it loads, as you can tell. I do think the packaging could have been a bit better though.... I don't really like the velvety casing. It looks really pretty when you buy it, but it gets dirty so quick and is really hard to keep clean. Here you can see what has happened to mine.
Does anyone have both this pallet and the MUA Undressed one? Please let me know your thoughts on them if you've got both!
I would still really recommend this pallet though!. It's one of my all time favourites, and the colours and amazing quality of the eye shadows make up for the poor packaging! The shadows are so easy to blend, go so well together and are really pigmented too!

Next broken product on the list my MAC Woodwinked eye shadow. It's probably one of the most unique and beautiful colours MAC do. If I could only own one eyeshadow from MAC, Woodwinked might well be it!  I made a big mistake with this, I stored it upside down in my make up collection as is demonstrated here... (I'm using Carbon by MAC just to show you)
...
And then my poor Woodwinked broke and crumbled. I ended up putting it in another pot and I use it a bit like a pigment now. That works fine too, but it's a shame that I ruined my favourite eye shadow by storing it upside down! The picture doesn't do the colour justice. Next time your at MAC check it out cos Woodwinked the most unique and beautiful gold-brown colour. Just don't store it upside down like I did!

Another one of my MAC products that's kapputt is my Studio Fix Powder. You can't see in the picture but the lid is actually broken and it won't close properly. Still a good product though, I just can't keep it in my handbag anymore (in case it smashes) but I use it in the mornings to set my foundation on days I want really full coverage.

Finally I bring you my Bourjois Bronzing Powder. I love this powder, it smells like chocolate,  but sadly the magnet cardboard bit has come off. Not a biggie though as this isn't expensive and I suppose I could always glue it back together. Still wanted to mention it while we're on the subject of broken make up!

Well and that's it, luckily most of my other make up is still intact. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and let me know what your thoughts are!

  1. Mix broken powders with drops of rubbing alcohol and they will reset into solid powders instead of crumbled ones.

    1. Rubbing alcohol is another name for surgical spirit - you can get it from Boots and Superdrug; or if you actually have isopropyl alcohol you can use that! A lot of people also use vodka if you have it at home, too! (Crush the broken eyeshadow/powder either in the pan or a small jar until all the bigger pieces are totally broken up and all powdered; add 1/2 drops of alcohol; stir thoroughly until its like a paste; pour it back into the pan; press the shadow firmly using a coin or similar - but must be the same size as the pan - which has been wrapped in tissue or material to give an even surface; then leave to dry! If you apply too much alcohol, its ok...just takes a bit longer to dry!)

You can use that method for anything, blush, eyeshadows, face powders -even pigments if you want to press them to fit into your makeup palettes!

      Good luck!

    1. I know so annoying isn't it. Worst one is the Nars one, shouldn't happen with such an expensive blush! xx

  6. I hate when you buy products which are already faulty but so far mine have mainly been cheap products (MUA mascara with a broken wand, nail polishes with messed up brushes etc). So, if I was you and it was all higher end stuff breaking, I'd be so mad!

I think NARS are pretty brave with the names they use for some of their products. I understand why it could be awkward to give them as gifts!

    1. Yea it is annoying hon, but I guess it goes to show more expensive make up dosn't always mean better make up!

I know, some of the NARS names are very brave, not something you'd wanna buy for your mum! xx
